Threads introduces 24-Hour disappearing posts feature

Threads

Threads is currently testing a new feature that will allow posts to disappear after 24 hours. This feature is best known on WhatsApp. This testing is being conducted with a limited number of users, as confirmed by the company to TechCrunch.

The ephemeral posts are designed to automatically delete both the original post and any replies after the designated time, which could encourage users to share more spontaneous or casual content without the long-term implications of their posts being permanently visible.

This follows Instagram's earlier experiments with auto-archiving, though it hasn't gained widespread adoption.

The concept of disappearing posts aligns with trends seen in other social media platforms, such as Instagram Stories, WhatsApp Status or Snapchat, where temporary content is popular. Threads aims to provide a more relaxed posting environment, potentially appealing to users who want to share thoughts or updates that are relevant only for a short period.

In addition to disappearing posts, Threads is also exploring a new "Media" tab for profiles, which would allow users to easily access videos and photos they have uploaded. This feature is seen as a way to enhance user experience by streamlining media content access.

Recall that the social media platform has recently unveiled new analytics tool - Insights - for tracking account performance and an upcoming post-scheduling feature.

Overall, the introduction of ephemeral posts could position Threads uniquely among its competitors, as it would be one of the few platforms offering this functionality alongside its existing features.
